Genesee County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Sandy Dunlap said it is important to deal with gang activity because many crimes in the county are committed by gangs or by people with connections to gangs. Also, once youths develop a gang mentality, they are likely to keep that mentality for the rest of their lives. There should be a countywide program to track gangs because there are gangs in every part of the county, he said.
Flint Police Officer Connie Hamilton discussed neighborhood crime.
She said there have been several larcenies from automobiles recently. "Be careful where you park and do not leave your cell phone in your car," Hamilton said.
She said arrest warrants have been issued for suspects involved in beating a disabled boy.
In other matters, about 25 members planted flowers in barrels on the Corunna Road parkway, between Court Street and Ballenger Highway, and at Zimmerman Center June 6.
