MCC offers robotic programming certificate

Mott Community College is offering a new certificate program designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the cutting-edge, high-tech field of robotic programming.
MCC's new certificate of achievement in robotic programming and control complements a wide range of more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs that give students a direct path to a broad range of career opportunities. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, produced by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in robotics technology is expected to increase through 2018.
Robotics is an area of computer science that applies artificial intelligence and engineering methods to develop robots that perform a variety of functions. Simply defined, a robot is a multifunctional, programmable machine. Robotic programs have wide application in technology, manufacturing and scientific advancement. Success in robotics requires expertise in computers and electronics systems.
The new robotic programming and control certificate, offered through the MCC technology division, is designed for professionals that have already earned a minimum of an associate of applied science degree or certificate of achievement in electronics and electrical technology, computer aided drafting and design, computer occupations technology, mechanical operations technology or related technical field or have five years of relevant work experience.
This certificate is also designed to provide training in robotic programming and controls to supplement the technical degree. Students will be prepared for careers in control systems, industrial automation, work cell development and robotics.
"The field of robotics demands many skills, and this new certificate is specifically designed to give students seeking careers in robotic programming the skills set they need to be successful," said Dolores Sharpe, executive director of academic operations at MCC.
