MCC announces new degree, certificate programs

Mott Community College continues to offer a variety of strong, future-oriented academic programs, preparing students for cutting-edge, 21st century careers.
The college is announcing the addition of four new certificates of achievement, as well as a new associate in applied science degree, complementing a broad range of more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs that give students a direct path to a variety of job opportunities.
Descriptions of the new programs.
Associate in Applied Science Degree — Media Arts and Entertainment Technology. Graduates will find a wide range of professional employment, both in Michigan and nationally, including positions in the film industry, at radio and television stations, advertising agencies, production and post-production houses, school systems nonprofits and corporations. Others may transfer to a four-year college or university to further their studies.
Certificate of Achievement — Media Arts and Entertainment Technology. For students pursuing a career in the multimedia, television, radio and motion picture industries, it is essential that they have a well-rounded, hands-on understanding of the many production fundamentals that are common to each of these fields. This certificate will provide students with production fundamentals that can augment their prior studies and add to their marketability in their careers.
Certificate of Achievement — Electrical Technology for Apprentice Electricians. The state of Michigan Electrical Administrative Board has mandated a set of core skills apprentices must master to successfully pass the journeyman electrical exam. This certificate program has been designed in response to state-mandated core skills and provides the appropriate classroom training to all electrical apprentices regarding electrical theory, safety and industry standards. Successful completion of this program, along with an approved electrical apprentice program as dictated by the state, would earn the student 576 related technical instruction hours of the 1,000 required hours. Companies will be able to customize their employee training as long as the state requirements are met.
Certificate of Achievement — Hybrid Technology and Repair. This new certificate allows MCC's current and future students to receive training in the latest automotive technology. These skills will help keep MCC students attractive to employers in an ever changing and difficult job market. The new certificate also keeps MCC's automotive technology program attractive to incoming students who have many choices for automotive training in the area.
Certificate of Achievement — Sustainable Construction. Successful completion of this program will provide a pool of trained workers to construction employers and local government organizations that need qualified personnel to implement green construction projects and strategies. This includes energy auditing companies, insulation and weatherization companies, demolition and deconstruction companies and solar, wind, geothermal and other renewable resource design and installation companies. It will also offer new opportunities in the modern construction industry for high school graduates and the unemployed and underemployed residents of Flint, Genesee County and surrounding area communities.
