MCC named among top 100 associate’s degree producers

Mott Community College has made another national listing, demonstrating that the college is achieving notable success in accomplishing its mission for the community. MCC was not only measured against other community colleges but also four-year colleges and universities that issue associate's degrees.
MCC was ranked in the June 13 edition of Community College Week's Top 100 Associate Degree Producers, a list that includes both two-year and four-year institutions. MCC ranked 77th nationally among institutions in the "associate's degrees — all disciplines" category as well as 67th in the category of associate's degree granted to men and women of African American ancestry.
The listing includes institutions that have awarded the largest number of associate's degrees and certificates based on an analysis examining degrees and certificates awarded in the 2009-2010 academic year with data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics.
Victor M.H. Borden, professor of educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Indiana-Bloomington, noted that 2011 has been a tough year for higher education in the article accompanying the list, Bad Times, Good Times: Degree Awards Set Record Despite Rocky Educational Landscape.
"This has been a rocky year for higher education in the United States," Borden stated. "States and local communities face the most severe financial constraints that have been experienced since most community colleges opened their doors. All institutions, community colleges in particular, struggle to offer a highly valued service to an increasingly diverse array of students and community partners with increasingly scarce resources."
Mott Community College was also recently ranked as one of the top 10 percent of community colleges in the country. In April, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program announced that Mott Community College is one of the nation's 120 best community colleges.
