Mott Foundation hires communications officer

Macie Schriner has joined the staff of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation as a communications officer for online strategies. She will assume responsibility for the ongoing development of the foundation's web site and other social media outlets.
She is a Flint-area native.
Schriner has spent the better part of a decade developing online communications strategies and social media campaigns for nonprofits. Most recently, she served as the e-marketing and emerging technologies manager for the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau. When she joined the convention and visitors bureau, the organization had no social media presence. Under her guidance, the bureau not only operates several web sites, but also uses a wide range of social media tools and networks.
Prior to joining the convention and visitors bureau, Schriner spent nine years in communications with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Mid-Michigan and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. Her time there included serving as the communications director.
"Schriner brings an exceptional set of skills that will be helpful in guiding and shaping the foundation's online presence, as well as our digital communications products," said Carol D. Rugg, the foundation's vice president for communications. "Increasingly, the foundation is interested in leveraging the power of social media to reach and serve a variety of audiences. The strategic management of these tools is critical to our long-term communications planning."
A resident of Lansing, Schriner has a bachelor's of fine arts in graphic design from Central Michigan University and worked for several years as a graphic artist.
The Mott Foundation, established in 1926 by an automotive pioneer, is a private philanthropy committed to supporting projects that promote a just, equitable and sustainable society. It supports nonprofit programs throughout the U.S. and, on a limited geographic basis, internationally. Grantmaking is focused in four programs — Civil Society, Environment, Flint Area and Pathways out of Poverty. Besides Flint, it has offices in metropolitan Detroit, Johannesburg (South Africa) and London. The foundation, with year-end assets of about $2.2 billion, made 492 grants totaling $92.9 million in 2010.
