Dr. Michael Boucree, Hurley Medical Center outcomes management vice president and chief quality and patient safety officer, leaves Flint after more than two decades for a position in his native New Orleans. Boucree will become medical affairs vice president of Ochsner Medical Center-West Bank, a part of the Ochsner Health System.
"I am proud to have been a member of the Hurley staff. I hope that my legacy has fostered foundations for growth, creativity and excellence, and what I have built will spur other individuals to pursue these qualities," said Boucree. "I am returning home to further hone the skills and competencies learned here at Hurley and to re-engage and reconnect with parents and family."
Over the years, Boucree immersed himself in the Flint community, both as a caring, professional physician as well as for the cultural health of the community.
"Dr. Boucree has given 24 years of service to his adopted Michigan community. Through his work at Hurley Medical Center and prior to that at Hamilton Health Clinic, he has insured that the highest level of quality medical care is available to all. He has also made an impact as a community leader, especially in the arts, including his service as a board director of the Flint Institute of Music and Flint Cultural Center Corporation. There is no question he will be missed. We respect his decision to move back home to New Orleans and wish him happiness and continued professional fulfillment," says Patrick R. Wardell, Hurley president and chief executive officer.
Boucree has held numerous leadership and membership roles throughout Genesee County, including with the Flint Cultural Center, Flint Institute of Music, UM-Flint Chancellors Strategic Planning Council, Genesee County Board of Health and the Genesee County Medical Society — past president, current board member and delegate.
Boucree received his medical degree and master's of public health degree from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. In 2009, Boucree received his bachelor's of science in music (piano performance) degree with high honors from UM-Flint and was a Maize and Blue recipient.
Ochsner Health System of Louisiana is named for Dr. Alton Ochsner who discovered the link between tobacco use and cancer in 1939. Today the health system serves many Louisiana communities, boasting eight hospitals and 38 health centers as southeast Louisiana's largest nonprofit, academic, multi-specialty, health care delivery system.
Hurley Medical Center is a 443-bed premier public teaching hospital in the heart of Genesee County. As the region's only level one trauma center, burn center and the highest-level neonatal intensive care unit available in Genesee County, Hurley is a recognized leader in clinical care and education. It has affiliations with Michigan State University, the UM-Ann Arbor, the UM-Flint, Mott Community College and Henry Ford Health System. Hurley, founded in 1908, provides patient care for more than 100,000 people annually.
