MCC baseball field to be named for Ernie Myers

Ernie Myers, former athletic director and coach, is one of the key figures in the rich sports tradition at Mott Community College. MCC is paying tribute to him with a dedication ceremony at the college baseball field at the northeast corner of Flint's Kearsley Park at noon July 22. The ball field will be formally named the Ernie Myers Baseball Field. Myers will attend the ceremony. The public is welcome.
The list of Myers' accomplishments is impressive. As MCC basketball coach in the 1960s, Myers fashioned a program that won 11 conference championships, three Region XII championships and three top 10 finishes in the NJCAA National Championship tournaments. He wound up being named to the incoming National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame as well as the Greater Flint Athletic Hall of Fame.
Myers started the all-senior baseball game in the late 1960s as a way to monitor, and ultimately keep, homegrown talent in Flint and was pivotal in creating the successful Kearsley Park Project that has revitalized that large park in the heart of Flint.
