Hurley announces election of board officers

The Hurley board of managers elected officers, Chairperson Charlotte Edwards, Vice Chairperson Philip Shaltz, Treasurer Carl Bekofske and Secretary Frances Gilcreast, at its annual meeting July 27.
Edwards has been a member of the Hurley board of managers since 2002. She is vice president and community development officer with Citizens Bank. Edwards holds a bachelor's of science degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N. C., and a master's of arts degree from Central Michigan University. Edwards completed the Michigan Hospital Association's 2010 Excellence in Governance Fellowship and in April she received the Community Spirit Award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis for her outstanding dedication to affordable housing and community economic development.
Shaltz has been a member of the Hurley board of managers since 2008. He is the president of Shaltz Fluid Power as well as president and founder of several organizations, including Shaltz Automation, Grady Ventures, Carson Development, Commerce Connect and Uptown Six. Shaltz also is chairman of the Hurley Foundation board. He received a bachelor's of science degree in packaging from Michigan State University in 1970 and is involved in a number of community activities, including serving on several boards.
Bekofske has been a member of the Hurley board of managers since 2008. He is an attorney in private practice in Flint. He has served as a Genesee County public administrator, administering estates for decedents and unknown heirs since 1986. He has served as a Chapter 13 trustee in Flint, an appointment by the office of U.S. trustee, Department of Justice for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston and Shiawassee counties since 1985. He is also an adjunct professor at Cooley Law School in Lansing and at Mott Community College. Bekofske received his juris doctorate from Wayne State University in 1967. He was a Flint City Council member from 1975-1979. Bekofske has served on numerous community boards.
Gilcreast has been member of the Hurley board of managers since 2005. She currently serves as the president of the NAACP Flint chapter and was named the 2007 NAACP president of the year in Michigan. She graduated with a bachelor's of arts from the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in social work. Gilcreast has received a number of awards and honors, including the Donald J. Reigle Community Service Award from the Flint Jewish Federation and the Flint Pan-Hellenic Council's community service awards. Gilcreast is a member of the Gamma Delta Chapter Hall of Living Legends and the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa.
Hurley Medical Center is a 443-bed premier public teaching hospital in the heart of Genesee County. As the region's only level one trauma center, burn center and the highest-level neonatal intensive care unit available in Genesee County, Hurley is a recognized leader in clinical care and education. It has affiliations with Michigan State University, the UM-Ann Arbor, the UM-Flint, Mott Community College and Henry Ford Health System. Hurley, founded in 1908, provides patient care for more than 100,000 people annually.
