Davison students selected Marable's students of month

Flint 68th District Judge Herman Marable Jr. and his Citizens Advisory Committee announced Sept. 19 Davison High School students J. Clinton Rooker, 16, and Emily Helm, 16, have been selected as Marable's Students of the Month for April and May. Helm attends Stony Creek High School in Rochester Hills.
These students were selected by Marable's Citizens Advisory Committee on the basis of their applications and essays about their career goals.
Clinton is looking forward to a career in the legal field. He has a strong interest in reading, running and physical fitness. At school he is on the varsity football, track and wrestling teams. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, student council secretary, prom committee chairperson and a math tutor.
Emily would like to pursue a career as a lawyer and judge. She enjoys reading, drawing, community service, history and Spanish. She is a member of Key Club International.
Each honoree will receive a $75 U.S. Savings Bond, a trophy, a certificate and will be invited to shadow Marable for a day at the court. The honorees' names have been engraved on a plaque on permanent display at the 68th District Courthouse.
The Judge Marable Student of the Month Program was established in 2004 to encourage Flint area high school students to focus on academic achievement and career goals. Each month during the school year a 10th grade student is recognized. One of the monthly awardees from the 2010-2011 school year will be selected as student of the year and will receive a $500 savings bond.
Tenth grade students who are residents of Flint or Genesee County, or who attend public, charter or private schools in the county are eligible to apply for award.
