Hispanic center gets $10,000 gift

The American GI Forum of Flint Hispanic Technology and Community Center, 2101 Lewis St., has received another gift from the same donor that surprised the center with a donation this summer. The center recently received a check for $10,000 from the same foundation that made a $7,000 donation in July. The donors wish to remain anonymous.
Eduardo Zimmermann, site coordinator at the Hispanic Technology and Community Center which works in partnership with Mott Community College, gave a tour of the center to two officials from the foundation last summer. The visitors were obviously impressed. The center received a $7,000 check in the mail less than two weeks after the visit.
"These officials praised the work being done at the center and wanted to do their part in seeing that we continue to offer services to the residents of the East Side of Flint," stated Carlos Cisneros, community outreach coordinator of the workforce and career development at Mott Community College, who also serves on the executive board of the Hispanic Technology and Community Center. "The funds will be used to expand offerings at the center."
The American GI Forum of Flint Hispanic Technology and Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with MCC in the former Citizens Bank branch. The center helps meet the needs of the community by offering:
• Free internet access with more than 15 computers in operation.
• Free income tax preparation to low and moderate income families using IRS certified volunteers and software.
• English as a second language and Spanish as a second language classes (offered weekly).
• Document translation and interpretation services.
• A notary public.
• IRS certified acceptance agent (ITIN).
• Urban gardening.
