Stabenow, Levin announce support for technology center

Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today announced the continuation of an award for the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center to support small and medium-sized manufacturers throughout the state. The center is headquartered in Plymouth with affiliate offices in Grand Rapids, Marquette, Saginaw and Traverse City.
The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center is the Michigan affiliate of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a public-private network of centers that assist small and medium-sized manufacturers in expanding operations, becoming more efficient, increasing sales and creating jobs. There are about 12,600 small and medium-sized manufacturing companies across Michigan.
"The Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center supports small and medium-sized manufacturers throughout Michigan. As part of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, these centers help our businesses spur innovation, advanced manufacturing, and job growth across the state," said Stabenow.
"The Manufacturing Extension Partnership is one of our most effective programs for spurring innovation and creating jobs. This grant will help the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center to continue the important work of supporting Michigan companies and workers," said Levin.
"MMTC appreciates the longstanding support of the MEP network provided by Stabenow and Levin. They understand the importance that manufacturing provides as an economic driver across our country and especially in Michigan. Each manufacturing job is significant, as it generates output in so many other sectors of the economy," said Mike Coast, MMTC president.
The $945,000 continuation was awarded through the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology and will cover the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center's federal support through June. Visit www.mmtc.org for more information.
