Durant-Tuuri-Mott RIF program receives $2,500 grant

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the nation's largest children's literacy organization, selected Durant-Tuuri-Mott's RIF Program to receive a $2,500 literacy grant to hold a Family Reading Celebration event for local families.
RIF awarded 25 programs, including Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary School (D-T-M), family reading grants for a total of $82,500. The grants will promote family engagement at RIF sites serving 100 to 2,500 children in 20 states across the country.
"We are honored to receive this Family Reading Celebration grant to better serve the families in our community," said Cynthia Burget, D-T-M's RIF coordinator. "I'm excited for our committee to finalize the plans for our fun-filled reading celebration that will help families in the D-T-M community discover the joy of reading together."
D-T-M's Family Reading Celebration will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. April 19 at the school. The theme is discover reading together.
Grant funds will be used to purchase books so that each student can leave with a new book, raffle items for parents and families, food, printing and supplies for the event. Several community groups will be assisting with the event, including local college students, local businesses, school leadership and D-T-M staff members.

"RIF is thrilled to award these dedicated programs with family reading celebration grants," said Carol H. Rasco, president and CEO of RIF. "We are committed to empowering parents and children to become lifelong readers."
RIF launched the Family Reading Celebration initiative last fall. To date, through a multi-year partnership with Macy's, RIF has distributed $170,000 in grant funds to more than 50 programs. Since 2004, Macy's has been a supporter of RIF, raising more than $16 million for RIF.
Reading Is Fundamental Inc. (RIF), founded in 1966, motivates children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life. RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provided 4 million children with 15 million new, free books and literacy resources last year.
