Flint featured in ‘Pure Michigan’ book

As the temperatures continue to rise, so too does the Flint area's reputation in the state as a springtime destination.

The Flint area is featured front and center in the recently published spring edition of Pure Michigan photo book. The book, now available for sale at the Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is the culmination of the Pure Michigan photography competition started in 2009. Kent Miller, a former photographer for the Flint Journal, won the competition and his photos of Flint and Genesee County received top billing.

"I think this is a testament to the beauty and vibrancy of Flint and Genesee County," said Jerry Preston, president of the Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Kent really captured in his photos the essence of what we're all about."

The book is filled with more than 100 professional-quality photos from 10 locales across Michigan. The Flint-area chapter features photos from Stepping Stone Falls, the Flint Farmers' Market, Crossroads Village, the Flint Institute of Arts and more.

"It's truly a cross-section of our larger community," Preston said. "It showcases the diversity of Flint and Genesee County— our colors, crafts and charm."

Miller competed against sponsored photographers from 10 convention and visitors bureaus across the state, from Port Huron to Marquette.

The book will be for sale for $17.95 plus tax at the Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, 502 Church St. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
