Shelter of Flint, a homeless shelter for women, children and families, announced the launch of www.ShelterofFlint.com, its new web site.

"We're pleased to offer a source of information to the public that is easily accessible and dynamically presented," said Executive Director Gary Haggart.

The emergency facility shelters about 68 people every day in Genesee and Lapeer counties. Haggart estimates that about 1,200 women and children are served yearly.

The shelter also provides transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, affordable housing based on income, rental assistance and children's programs. Details of each of these programs can be found on their web site.

"Since 1983, the shelter has provided for the most basic needs of people, eating and sleeping, which makes it a high priority for many donors," Haggart said.

"We hope that donors will find the web information helpful when deciding where their charity dollars will go. Young people are very comfortable with the internet and we're hoping they will look us up too," Haggart continued.

Supporters can keep up-to-date on how their donations are used by checking out the Shelter news and happenings online. Electronic newsletters and press releases are posted and archived at their new site.

The web site offers testimonials of people who were served at the facility so surfers can see the shelter through the eyes of its clients.

The shelter receives federal and state funding. United Way and other private charities also contribute.

The shelter is non-denominational and serves everyone. Those interested in financially contributing to the shelter can make their donations on line.
